BNC Garden Coordinator Position

The Beltrami Neighborhood Council (BNC), located in Northeast Minneapolis, seeks a self-motivated and energetic garden coordinator.  The BNC is a 501(c)(3), led by an 11 member Board of Directors and supported by a part-time neighborhood coordinator.  The BNC administers a number of programs and projects, including management of an established community garden, and is in the process of adding a cooperative community garden.  

The garden coordinator position will be responsible for coordinating two Beltrami community gardens.  The position is a seasonal (Spring – October 2016), part-time position, 10 hours per week.  Applicants must be willing to work 1-2 evenings per week and some weekends. Primary Responsibilities:

1) Site Management

  • Coordinate logistics of garden (deliveries, water, gardener work schedules, maintenance, etc.)
  • Ensure gardeners are caring for the property/beds
  • Work 1-2 shifts in the gardens each week

2) Volunteer Recruitment & Management

  • Recruit and support volunteers and gardeners
  • Manage garden work schedules and follow up with gardeners as needed to ensure membership requirements are fulfilled

3) Administration

  • Attend monthly environment committee meetings and support garden leadership team
  • Receive, file, and manage garden/membership applications
  • Work with environment committee/gardeners to organize 2-3 larger garden events and several smaller gatherings throughout season
  • Keep records, logs, and files to ensure garden season runs smoothly
  • Meet with Neighborhood Coordinator weekly
  • Other tasks as assigned

4) Communications

  • Create flyers, social media posts, newsletter content, etc. as needed

5) Other Tasks as Assigned

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some knowledge of vegetable gardening
  • Experience working with diverse communities
  • Excellent people skills
  • Ability to work independently, self-start, and follow through
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings (1-2 weekends a month, 2-3 evenings per week)
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs, use stairs, stand for extended periods, and work in a variety of weather conditions
