Timber Framed Picnic Pavilion – The Fun Continues!
Our timber was delivered and unloaded on July 23rd by our driver from Heritage Transport and telehandler operator from BRC Rentals. Since then, we’ve had a great team working to make the Beltrami Park Picnic Pavilion a reality. During the last week of July, master timber carver Clark Bremer has led the team of Spark-Y interns and staff in carving the timbers for the pavilion. Volunteers from the Beltrami neighborhood kept them fed and hydrated for that period. We’d like to thank everyone for their hard work so far and we’re so excited to see the next steps of the project.
Speaking of next steps, we have a number of upcoming events that all are welcome to attend:
Wednesday, August 3rd, 5-7:30 PM: We need your help building the picnic tables for the pavilion! Head on over to the pavilion construction site to lend a hand. Also, be sure to stop by the Mobile Sign Shop to make a custom “cabin sign” to take home.
Saturday, August 6th: Pavilion Raising! Clark Bremer, of Northeast Art and Science Polytechnic, and Spark-Y interns and staff will gather around 8 am to begin setting up for the raising. In mid-morning, the ceremonial driving of the first peg will occur. Pieces will be raised throughout the day, with the main action occurring noon through 4 PM. At the end of the day, the ceremonial setting of the whetting bush will occur. The public is invited to observe starting around noon. We’re also in need of some extra brawn first thing in the morning to help with moving pieces. Let Vanessa at the Beltrami Neighborhood Council know if you are able to help.
August – September: Roof, turf establishment, and finishing touches.
September 12th, 6:30 PM: Ribbon cutting, neighborhood picnic, and celebration. Please join the Beltrami Neighborhood Council (BNC) and Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board in celebrating the completion of the new picnic pavilion.
Pack a picnic dinner, check out the new picnic pavilion, and learn what’s new with the BNC.
A BNC Board Meeting will follow at 7:30PM.
